Goal 3: Sustainable Use of Resources
As the world works to address the threats and causes of climate change, the Berkshires is gearing up to do its part. Massachusetts has been a leader in the nation with its passage of the Green Communities Act and many Berkshire Communities are actively working to implement the Act and reduce energy use. Municipalities and other organizations in the Berkshires have also been thinking and acting creatively to reduce the amount of water that is treated and used, the amount of solid waste that goes into a landfill or garbage dump, and to improve daily practices to reduce impacts on our environment and wallets.
We are working as a region to:
- Reduce Solid Waste
- Reduce Water Waste
- Increase Energy Efficiency and Diversity
- Uphold Land Use Patterns that Balance Diverse Regional Objectives
- Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions
