Goal 1: A Vibrant Year-Round Local Economy
The Berkshire economy is comprised of a rich mix of local businesses, arts and cultural organizations, health care and wellness institutions, social service and education providers, industry and engineering, outdoor recreation, and local farms. The infrastructure that supports our economy is as much the beautiful natural and historic landscape as it is the interstate access and rail lines. Like this infrastructure, the region’s economy does not stop at the county line; adjacent areas of Massachusetts, New York, Vermont, and Connecticut are closely linked to the Berkshires. As the greater Berkshire region works to grow economically by building on its strengths, it will continue to encourage ingenuity and diversity.
We are working as a region to:
- Strengthen and Diversify Business and Employment Base
- Retain and Grow the Region’s Rich Arts and Culture Scene
- Protect and Enhance the Natural and Historic Resources
- Provide Infrastructure and a Built Environment that Supports Economic Objectives
- Support Local Agriculture
